According to Grant Cohn (@grantcohn) of the Press Democrat, San Francisco 49ers running back Kendall Hunter was injured during today's team practice.

Cohn said the following in a short post on his blog, Inside the 49ers:

He caught a pass in the flat, tried to juke and make Perrish Cox miss and Hunter's right knee buckled. He stayed on the ground for five minutes and then walked to the locker room.

Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle confirms that Hunter was able to walk off the field without any assistance and that he didn't appear to have a noticeable limp.

Branch added:

After Hunter dropped to the ground, a few teammates said "No, no, no," while another hopefully implored him to "hop up."

Hunter is slated to be Frank Gore's backup. Over the past three seasons, he has rushed for 1,202 yards on 262 attempts, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. In 2012, he averaged 5.2 yards per carry. He also has 268 receiving yards over the the past three seasons.

Hunter was drafted in the 4th round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the 49ers.

Two other young players, Marcus Lattimore and Carlos Hyde, are competing for playing time in a very deep group of running backs.

Rookies reported to training camp on Wednesday, July 16 while veterans reported on Wednesday, July 23.
