San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke addressed the media today and gave some information on the current state of the team.

Baalke stated that defensive end Justin Smith has earned the right to announce his playing status on his own time.

He said that linebacker NaVorro Bowman is "real good" and starting to feel like himself as he comes back from the devastating ACL tear he suffered over a year ago. The team is real confident in Chris Borland and Michael Wilhoite filling in for Patrick Willis.

The team has had no contact with Greg Hardy and has no interest in signing the defensive end.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks will remain on the team this season. He will not be released as so many have expected the 49ers to do.

Oddly, Baalke stated that the team has not released wide receiver Stevie Johnson. However, Johnson indicated on Twitter that he had been let go by the 49ers.

When asked whether guard Mike Iupati had played with a fractured foot last season, he answered, "Not to my knowledge."

He said the the 49ers have not talked to any team about a possible trade of quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Baalke and the staff had a great visit with running back Reggie Bush today. He said "Great guy, good conversation." He didn't state whether or not a deal was imminent.

Update on Johnson:

Cam Inman is reporting that the 49ers will indeed release Stevie Johnson but it is just not finalized. The paperwork is in process of being submitted.
