Matt Maiocco, CSN Bay Area:
On Thursday, [Bowman] read backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert in an 11-on-11 red zone drill and nearly recorded an interception in the end zone.
Safety Craig Dahl capitalized on a Gabbert overthrow intended for DeAndrew White to make a diving interception during the first teamwork session of the non-padded practice.
Don't be surprised to see a few bad snaps in Saturday's game, as that's an area in which the 49ers have struggled to find consistency.
Tony Jerod-Eddie, Lawrence Okoye and Shawn Lemon produced good pass rushes in 11-on-11 work.
Grant Cohn, The Press Democrat:
Jaquiski Tartt: Played free safety for the second-team defense and picked off Colin Kaepernick during seven on sevens.
Carrier almost never drops a pass, and clearly is the second-best receiving tight end on the roster behind starter Vernon Davis.
Earlier in camp Kaepernick struggled during full team drills—he seemed uncomfortable behind the Niners' offensive line. Now he seems confident.
Gabbert's pass hit McDonald in stride and he just dropped it. I praised McDonald earlier in the week for improving his hands, but my praise seems to have been premature.
Jimmy Durkin, The Mercury News:
Thursday was a light practice without pads, as would be expected for the final session before a game. The 49ers fly to Houston on Friday.
Among the notable moments from the 11-on-11 session were two shotguns snaps from Joe Looney to Colin Kaepernick that hit the turf. Both were off to the side and Kaepernick couldn't grab them.
Shareece Wright made a nice strip of Vernon Davis just after he caught a pass from Kaepernick.
In 7-on-7 work, rookie Jaquiski Tartt intercepted a Kaepernick pass to Davis on what seemed to be a miscommunication between the quarterback and tight end.
