While Smith dealt with the death of a loved one, the media was focused on whether or not the talented receiver would play in the Ravens' then upcoming game against the New England Patriots. Smith did play and had 127 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a dramatic 31-30 win over the Patriots.
"I didn't want to hurt my team by trying to play and not being physically or mentally ready. After much thought and support from my family, I decided to play. That game was very emotional for me," said Smith in his post.
