Warner, a former Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP with the St. Louis Rams, helped work with Kaepernick during the offseason to improve his quarterback mechanics and play.
"I think you have to get to a certain point for us to say 'regressing,'" explained Warner. "When he came in, he was so dynamic with his feet ... Defenses didn't really understand what to do with it ... Teams have caught up," Warner added.
Warner explained that opposing teams are saying, "Now we are going to force these guys to read coverages and decipher things."
Warner and Kaepernick have not talked during the season. When Eisen brought up Kaepernick's large contract, Warner said, "We give these quarterbacks these huge contracts now, well before they've fully proven they can be that guy week in and week out."
Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers face the New York Giants on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Kickoff is at 5:30 PM PT.
