The 49ers are coming off of a 17-3 defeat against the Green Bay Packers. The Giants are coming off of a 24-10 victory against the Buffalo Bills.
The 49ers have lost their last three games. In those losses, they have been outscored 107-28. The 49ers, who are the NFL's lowest-scoring offense, have not scored a touchdown in the past six quarters of play.
QB Colin Kaepernick, playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league, has a 67.7 passer rating on the season and a 25.7 rating over the last two weeks. That includes a career low 16.7 rating that he suffered during week three against the the Arizona Cardinals.
Of the quarterbacks that have at least 60 passes, Kaepernick ranks second to last through four games according to Football Outsiders.
The 49ers have had one of the toughest schedules in the NFL through four weeks of play, and it will not be getting any easier. They hope to avoid their worst road losing streak in more than five years. The Giants are looking to win their third straight game after dropping their first two. QB Eli Manning has completed 62.9% of his passes for 976 yards, seven touchdowns and only one interception.
LB Ahmad Brooks will miss the game due to a death in the family. TE Vernon Davis will miss his second straight game with a knee injury. He did not play in last week's loss to the Packers. WR Quinton Patton (concussion) and T Joe Staley (knee) are questionable.
G Andrew Tiller was promoted from the practice squad on Saturday. To make room for him, the 49ers released CB Shareece Wright, who was vocal about the team's refusal to play him and wanted out of San Francisco.
