Update: Cornerback Nate Clements and safety Michael Lewis (Eagles) are currently at the 49ers facility in Santa Clara according to Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat. Neither Lewis nor Clements have signed a contract or taken a physical. Maiocco also states that "Whenever a player comes to your team offices on the first day of free agency, that team is generally determined to not let that player leave without a signed contract."

Adam Schefter just confirmed that Nate Clements and the 49ers have agreed to terms. This ran on the NFL networks ticker on the bottom of the screen.

John Clayton of ESPN previously reported that the 49ers were close to signing free agent cornerback Nate Clements. However, a representative of Clement said "that there is no deal in place with the 49ers, or any team for that matter, and that no deal is imminent. His office called the reports 'false and very untrue.'" There seems to be some conflicting reports here.

Earlier today, Thomas Sorrell, a writer for RealFootball365, broke the story with this email from Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:

Email from Geoff Hobson:
Clements is gone to san fran for $23 M to sign - a deal the Bengals could have done if they cut the few guys who do play defense.

Interest in Tully Banta-Cain

Maiocco also said the following in his blog this morning:

The 49ers have talked to Tully Banta-Cain's agent, Jim Sims, but no visit has been scheduled. Banta-Cain is traveling today to visit with a team that Sims declined to identify.

Anthony Adams will no longer be with the 49ers

From Matt Maiocco's ongoing blog updates:

Anthony Adams pulled up to the front of the 49ers' team offices to grab some of his belongings. The 49ers will not make an effort to re-sign him because they don't see him being a fit for the 3-4 defensive scheme that the club wants to implement.

Newberry to have a physical with Raiders

Maiocco also had this to say in the same blog from this morning:

We know Jeremy Newberry isn't coming back to the 49ers. He is scheduled to have a physical with the Raiders on Monday. Depending on how things go there, he may or may not visit the Buccaneers on Tuesday.
