On the injury front, DT Quinton Dial has a back strain. DE Arik Armstead had a leg contusion. X-rays on him came back negative. LB Eli Harold dislocated finger. They put it back in and Harold returned to the game.
As for the team's penalties during Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions, Tomsula said that he does not have an excuse for the many mistakes made by the 49ers defense. He called the mistakes "absolutely inexcusable." They are trying to develop consistency. He stated that the biggest problem that the team had on Sunday wasn't the contact or setting up, it was wrapping up tackles.
Despite the team's continuing problems, Tomsula believes they are building. The same goes for the 49ers coaching staff. "I think there's been a lot of growth," Tomsula said. "We're just going to keep working."
When asked if he believed that he would be coaching with the 49ers next season, he responded by saying, "Yeah. I'm going to coach until somebody tells me I'm not." He has not had discussions with management about his future. He said that the biggest thing he is asked by management is if there is anything they can do to help. They ask, "Is there anything we can do for you?"
He has not talked with general manager Trent Baalke on the roster's future and where it needs to go. Everything is focused on the week at hand. "There's obviously conversation. Not big meetings or anything like that," Tomsula said.
