Team will switch to a 3-4 scheme

Dennis Georgatos, of the San Jose Mercury News, reporting for the Sporting News, reports the San Francisco 49ers plan to use a 3-4 scheme in 2007, which is favored by head coach Mike Nolan. In the past two years, the team played mostly 4-3 because it kept getting set back by injuries, depth issues, and the lack of a wide-bodied nose tackle.

Team could target Carriker

Lewis will play strong safety

Lewis will become the 49ers strong safety, while SS Mark Roman will move over to free safety and replace SS Keith Lewis, who could back up either spot.
