Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area is hearing that San Francisco 49ers running backs coach Tom Rathman is expected to remain with the team under new head coach Chip Kelly's staff.


Rathman, a fan favorite, has been the 49ers running backs coach since 2009. He was also the team's running backs coach from 1997 through 2002. He has also coached with the Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders.

He he is mostly known for being a 49ers fullback from 1986 through 1993 and is a two-time Super Bowl champion.

On Saturday, it was reported that Eagles DL coach Jerry Azzinaro, QB coach Ryan Day, and WR coach Bob Bicknell were expected to follow Kelly to San Francisco.


The 49ers have reportedly interviewed Houston Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel for the defensive coordinator position. Hardy Nickerson has been interviewed for the linebackers coach position. He spent the past two seasons as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' linebackers coach, but was not retained on Dirk Koetter's staff.
