Last month, 49ers regional scout Steve Rubio and outside linebackers coach Jason Tarver were at the Spartan pro day while much of the remainder of San Francisco's staff, including head coach Chip Kelly, were in attendance at San Jose State's pro day.
The 6-foot-4 Cook completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 9,194 yards, 71 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions over his college career for the Spartans. He is the 2015 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner, was First-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten QB of The Year last year, and came in ninth place in Heisman Trophy voting.
Cook has won the Big Ten Championship twice (2013, 2015), earning the MVP award in each of those games, and led his team to a 2014 Rose Bowl championship, where he was also the MVP, and a 2015 Cotton Bowl championship.
