When asked what fans can look forward to from the offense this year, Kilgore said that the tempo of new head coach Chip Kelly's offense should help to improve things. "We've had a history of delay of games. I don't believe we'll have that problem this year. It's going to be quick pace. Blaine Gabbert's doing a great job taking control of the offense and leading the offense," said Kilgore.
Before you read into that last comment too much, note that quarterback Colin Kaepernick's practice with the team has been extremely limited as he recovers from multiple surgeries.
Kilgore went on to complimented the team's group of receivers and running backs, the latter of which he felt was a strong group. "It's going to be up-tempo. It's going to be an exciting offense. When you got an offensive line like we have that can run, we can be deadly. It's going to be fun," he continued.
The 49ers offense ranked 31st in total yards last season, last in scoring, 29th in passing, and 21st in rushing. Chip Kelly's Philadelphia Eagles have never ranked less than 12th in total offense, scoring, or passing and have never ranked less than 14th in rushing. In fact, during his first two seasons in Philadelphia, the Eagles ranked as high as second in total offense, third in scoring, sixth in passing, and first in rushing.
Kilgore also responded to a comment by 49ers rookie DE Ronald Blair stating that he was a legend at Appalachian State. "There wasn't many Daniel Kilgore posters in Boone, North Carolina when I was there," said Kilgore.
