Michael Robinson of NFL Network was at San Francisco 49ers practice on Friday and spoke with Blaine Gabbert, who is one of the two quarterbacks involved in a competition for the starting job.

Gabbert was asked how he is enjoying his new coach, Chip Kelly, and the new system being installed. "It's been a lot of fun," answered Gabbert. "(Kelly) brings a lot of energy to work every day and meetings have been fun. You hear the music out at practice. Up-tempo, but it's been a blast. Our schedule has been great. Keeping the guys healthy. Keeping the legs fresh and we're taking advantage of it."

"You just have to go out there every day and put your best foot forward," said Gabbert while answering a question about the quarterback competition. "It's not my first competition and you compete every year for your job. Somebody's always there to come and try to take it."

Gabbert was asked what he needs to do to ensure that the 49ers do not have the same type of season as last year. "You just got to execute," said Gabbert. "Keep this offense on schedule. Give our defense a chance to stay in the game and really just put some points on the board."

When asked what was unique about his skill set that makes him the best choice for the starting job, Gabbert answered, "I'm sneaky athletic. I can run when I have to, but I would just say smart with the football, take care of the football, and really just distribute it to our guys."

When asked if this was his offense, Gabbert answered with a smile, "No question."
