San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly met with the media today and was asked about the recent rumors that tackle Joe Staley was on the trade market.

The rumors originated from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who reported that Staley was getting some interest from the same teams that have shown interest in Cleveland Browns tackle Joe Thomas.

"That's news to me," Kelly said. "No one has ever had any discussions with me about Joe being traded. We need Joe here."

Kelly added more during the press conference. "I'm not in charge of the overall roster," Kelly said. "I'll give my weigh in and weigh in where everybody is but my point to that thing is that we've never had a conversation about that. We talk about everything on a daily basis but that's never come up. And I understand how it comes up because we're 1-6 and Joe's a veteran player but that doesn't matter where you are, that's going to be speculation no matter what team you are and where you are. Who are your older players? It's just kind of the nature of the sport we play."

Kelly was asked if this was something that he discussed this with Staley. "No," Kelly answered. "I did not talk to Joe today. I don't make it a habit of talking to our guys about erroneous reports. So, from what I understand, I don't have any information on that."

Staley, who is 32, is under contract through 2019. The trade window closes on Tuesday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
