Running back Carlos Hyde may not be a member of the San Francisco 49ers anymore, but he is still raving about his former quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. He spoke with Kay Adams on Good Morning Football on Tuesday and was asked what it is about Garoppolo that sets him apart from other quarterbacks in the league he has played with or seen.
"I've only played with a couple of quarterbacks since I've been in the league," Hyde said. "Jimmy G was the last guy where I really got to feel what a true quarterback, to me, honestly feels like. He came from the Patriots, so he learned from one of the best in the game.
"To me, you can tell that he definitely learned. The way he approaches the game, the way he has meetings before the game, just getting on the same page as the receivers and running backs. He's definitely a leader. You expect that from your quarterback. He's as good as advertised."
Hyde spent his first four seasons with the 49ers before signing as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns in March. He was part of last year's 49ers team that went undefeated during December with Garoppolo at the helm and finished 6-10 after winning just one game with Brian Hoyer and rookie C.J. Beathard behind center.
Hyde had expressed a genuine interest in returning to the 49ers and continuing to play with Garoppolo.
"I feel we've got a chance to go to the Super Bowl next year and I don't want to go to another team," Hyde said in December.
