San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin traveled to Tampa, Florida with his teammates on Friday but returned to the Bay Area shortly after to deal with a personal matter.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday that he isn't sure if Goodwin will return to the team this week as it prepares for Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
"I haven't got a chance to talk to him today," Shanahan said. "I talked to him over the weekend. I know he's still dealing with the stuff today. I'm not sure on [when he will return], though."
Shanahan was asked about Goodwin's absence following the 49ers' 27-9 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. He didn't want to reveal too many details on why his receiver did not play.
"It's a family matter, as you guys know, something personal," Shanahan told reporters after the game. "He definitely wasn't in trouble (for leaving) because he's going through a serious situation. Our prayers are with him."
The 49ers were already without wide receiver Pierre Garçon, who was ruled out for Sunday's game due to the knee injury he has been dealing with for much of the season. Goodwin and Garçon are the team's leading wide receivers.
"It was tough (being without them), but it gave a lot of other guys opportunities out there," Shanahan said on Sunday. "Dante (Pettis) got to play a lot more, did some good things. But you miss some of those guys."
