San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is going through a difficult time right now. The details of the personal matter which forced him to miss Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers remain unknown. For now, he remains excused from the team.
Goodwin was on the plane with his teammates when the 49ers traveled to Tampa, Florida last Friday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan excused Goodwin so he could return to the Bay Area to deal with the personal matter.
It is unknown when Goodwin will rejoin his teammates, who will practice for the first time this week at 1:25 p.m. PT on Wednesday.
"He's not in," Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area asked the head coach if there was anything more he could say about the situation.
"No, nothing," Shanahan responded. "Same stuff. He's been excused. He just needs more time."
Shanahan told reporters on Monday that he wasn't sure if Goodwin would be back at all this week as the 49ers prepare for Sunday's road game against the Seattle Seahawks.
"It's a family matter, as you guys know, something personal," Shanahan told reporters after the Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers. "He definitely wasn't in trouble (for leaving) because he's going through a serious situation. Our prayers are with him."

Pundits across the league have identified the 49ers' needs (look to this excellent article by Kraz Greinetz for a nuanced evaluation), and it is clear there are holes in almost every part of the roster, some gaping, some small. Since this draft is one the powers-that-be must...
