Matt Barrows of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the San Francisco 49ers are expressing some interest in New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse. So we reported it here.
Kearse replied via Twitter by saying the 49ers would be "fortunate" to land him in free agency and described himself as a player who is "always underestimated" but "always delivers."
Fortunate as in it is unlikely to happen or fortunate as in it could happen? Only Kearse and his agent (and maybe the 49ers) know the answer to that. The rest of us may find out on Wednesday when NFL teams can officially begin signing impending free agents at 1 p.m. PT.
Barrows noted that he does not know how serious San Francisco is about acquiring the 29-year-old receiver, but his reply is intriguing.
Kearse spent his first five NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks before being packaged with a second-round draft pick to the Jets on September 1, 2017, in exchange for defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.
