San Francisco 49ers VP of Player Personnel Martin Mayhew is currently in Houston interviewing for the vacant Texans general manager job, according to Peter Schrager of "Good Morning Football."
Martin Mayhew is in Houston to interview for the vacant Texans GM position, per sources. Mayhew is currently the 49ers Vice President of Player Personnel and a former GM of the Detroit Lions. Respected personnel man and former player. @nflnetwork@gmfb@NFLonFOX
The 49ers promoted Mayhew to his current position on January 24 after serving the previous two seasons as a senior personnel executive with the team. Both he and fellow 49ers executive, Adam Peters, hold the same title but serve different roles within the organization.
Mayhew, 53, served as the general manager of the Detroit Lions from 2008 until 2015 and held an executive role with the New York Giants before joining the 49ers in February of 2017.
Mayhew played cornerback in the NFL for eight seasons from 1989 until 1996 with the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was part of the Washington team that won Super Bowl XXVI.
