A day after a brief cameo in the San Francisco 49ers' preseason finale, quarterback Nick Mullens is a new father. His wife, Haleigh, gave birth to their son, Luke Clayton Mullens, according to Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group.
Congratulations to Mullens and his wife.
Update: Nick Mullens' wife Haleigh gave birth today to their son Luke Clayton Mullens. Pre-combine measurements: 9 lbs, 5 oz; 20 inches; strong genes; ascending player. Congrats
Mullens spent the offseason competing with C.J. Beathard for San Francisco's backup quarterback job. He is a near-lock to make the 53-player roster. The deadline for NFL teams to get down to the required limit is Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.
Mullens played in one drive against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night.
"The plan was for [Beathard and Mullens] to start the same amount of quarters (in preseason)," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game. "C.J. had six, and we wanted him to get six. I was going to debate on how long to keep him in, but after he got hit a few times in protection, I just pulled him out."
San Francisco signed Mullens as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss in 2017. He completed 176-of-274 attempts (64.2 percent) for 2,277 yards with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions through eight starts with the 49ers in 2018.
