The San Francisco 49ers' first depth chart of the regular season was released on Tuesday, and one area was the cause of some confusion. No, it had nothing to do with who was listed as a starter or backup. It had to do with the players listed on injured reserve.

Scrolling down to the bottom of the depth chart revealed that safety Adrian Colbert and offensive lineman Andrew Lauderdale were listed on injured reserve. You're probably thinking back to Saturday and remembering that you saw their names as part of the 53-player roster cut-down.

You're not wrong.

Yes, Colbert and Lauderdale were among the players waived on Saturday. So why are they listed as being on injured reserve? That's because they were waived with an "injured" designation. None of the players waived by the 49ers were claimed by another NFL team, and because of the designation on Colbert and Lauderdale, the two reverted back to the San Francisco's injured reserve list.

Now, before you get excited that the 49ers might have retained Colbert (or Lauderdale for all you Lauderdale fans out there), Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area provided a good explanation of what happened and what might happen with both players.
