"They come off the bye atop the NFC West with a big home game against the Browns. That won't be easy for that defense." — Pete Prisco

"Two major areas of progress for the Niners, who are already just one win away from matching their total from last year: 1) They are making impact plays on defense that weren't happening a year ago. [...] 2) The running game has been excellent." — Dan Hanzus

"The undefeated 49ers enjoyed their bye week, not moving in our rankings at all. Not playing is surely a better experience when your team has been a top-five defense and a top-five offense so far. Their production has come even though Jimmy Garoppolo hasn't graded out elite so far, indicating that Kyle Shanahan is drawing up well-designed plays once again." — Kevin Cole and Timo Riske

"Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who took over the worst unit in the league in 2017 and lifted it to third so far this year, is getting some notice as a head coaching candidate." — The MMQB Staff
