Running back Tevin Coleman has earned his first league-sponsored award since joining the San Francisco 49ers. He has been named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award winner because of his impressive Week 8 performance in the Niners' 51-13 win over the Carolina Panthers.
A $2,000 donation will be made in Coleman's name to the USO through FedEx Cares.
Coleman finished the game with 105 rushing yards on 11 carries (9.5 yards per attempt) with three rushing touchdowns. He also added two receptions for 13 yards and a touchdown reception.
The other award nominees were running backs David Montgomery of the Chicago Bears and James Conner of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Coleman was also named the Snickers 'Hungriest Player' of the Week, according to Matthew Asher of 49ers.com.
San Francisco signed Coleman in March, and Week 8 was his first 100-yard performance with his new team. The veteran running back has 332 rushing yards on 71 carries with five rushing touchdowns through five games and two starts this season.
