Kongbo played college football for the Arizona Western College Matadors and Tennessee Volunteers, and most recently played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. The Blue Bombers made him the fifth-overall pick in the 2019 CFL Draft.
Kongbo recorded 12 tackles and a sack through 12 games with Winnipeg last year. He also played in all three of the Blue Bombers' playoff games and helped the team win the Grey Cup championship.
Kongbo was released on December 5, 2019, to pursue a career in the NFL. He registered 11 tackles and an interception through six games as a senior with Tennessee before suffering a torn ACL.
A reserve/futures contract keeps a player tied to a team but doesn't go into effect until the start of the new league year.
