Cornerback Mackensie Alexander did not play in the Minnesota Vikings' Wild Card win over the New Orleans Saints this past weekend due to a knee injury. He will not be available to the Vikings on Saturday when they face the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium, either.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Alexander will undergo arthroscopic surgery for the small tear in his lateral meniscus. The surgery isn't necessarily season-ending, should the Vikings advance, but it will make the cornerback unavailable for this weekend, at least.
#Vikings CB Mackensie Alexander will have arthroscopic surgery for the small tear in his lateral meniscus, source said. Won't play Saturday against the #49ers, but season not necessarily over if Minnesota can advance. Another challenge for Mike Zimmer's defense.
Alexander consulted with doctors in an effort to find a way to avoid surgery, but those efforts fell short.
Minnesota is also without cornerback Mike Hughes, who was placed on injured reserve on January 3.
The 49ers are currently seven-point favorites over the Vikings.
