The San Francisco 49ers have exercised the option on K'Waun Williams' contract, keeping the cornerback signed through the 2020 season, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

As mentioned by Barrows, the 49ers did the same thing with fullback Kyle Juszczyk on Wednesday.

Williams is preparing to enter his sixth NFL season and fourth with the 49ers. The Cleveland Browns initially signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh in 2014. Williams joined the 49ers on a one-year contract in 2017, and then signed a three-year extension later that year.

Williams finished the 2019 season with 51 tackles, a sack, two passes defensed, two interceptions, and four forced fumbles through 15 games and eight starts. He recorded 15 more tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble through San Francisco's three playoff games.

"I mean, the guy, he does it all for us," linebacker Fred Warner said of Williams in January. "He's unwavering. You know exactly what you're going to get out of him every single day, and when you put him on the field on Sundays, you know, I have so much respect for him.

"We call him the shark just because he eats. He's out there, and he might be a smaller guy because he's a nickel, but the dude is one of the most physical players I've been around, and the way he attacks the ball is something that I try to replicate when I'm out there."
