The San Francisco 49ers announced that running back Matt Breida has signed his one-year tender with the team. The window to do so was set to expire on Friday.
The 49ers placed a second-round tender on the 25-year-old Breida on March 17. That means he could negotiate with other NFL teams, but should one choose to sign the running back, it would have to relinquish a second-round pick. Breida is preparing to enter his fourth NFL season.
The 49ers signed Breida as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern in 2017. He carried the football 123 times for 623 yards with a rushing touchdown while adding 19 receptions for 120 yards with a receiving touchdown through 13 games and five starts in 2019.
Breida had just nine carries for 19 yards during the 49ers' first two playoff games and didn't touch the football in Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs. The running back has 1,902 rushing yards on 381 attempts with six rushing touchdowns through his three NFL seasons.
Breida's best statistical season came in 2018 when he rushed for 814 yards on 153 carries (5.3 yards per carry) with three rushing touchdowns while adding 261 yards with two scores through the air on 27 receptions.
