Julie Donaldson of NBC Sports Washington reported on Friday that the San Francisco 49ers are interested in trading for Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams.

John Keim of ESPN added some more details to that report on Friday night, stating that, due to the 49ers' lack of draft equity this year, the team would need to surrender future picks to get a deal done.

Keim also notes that the Minnesota Vikings were close to a deal with Washington for Williams, but it fell through.

"Other teams remain interested in Williams, including San Francisco," wrote Keim. "But, as has been stated often this week, the 49ers' interest is tied to whether or not Joe Staley retires and creates a void. The Los Angeles Rams could become a team to watch -- if they can create more cap room. Both the Rams (Sean McVay) and 49ers (Kyle Shanahan) have coaches who have worked with Williams."

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan worked with Williams for four seasons, and was serving as Washington's offensive coordinator when the offensive lineman was drafted in 2010.

Williams, 31, is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection.
