49ers troll Rams after LA debuts new uniform designs

So I texted a photo of the Los Angeles Rams' newly-announced uniform designs to a friend of mine—a lifelong Rams fan in the LA area—to get his opinion of them.

"Horrible," he responded.

I actually didn't think they were that bad (the helmets look fine, to me), but I'm also not a lifelong Rams fan. There definitely were some questionable design choices, like using a gradient within the numbers. There also appears to be some sort of texture design within those numbers.

At least the heavily-criticized new logo isn't featured prominently on the uniforms. Although, a small version of it is on the back of the jerseys, just above the nameplate.

The reaction on social media has been very mixed. Getting in on the action of throwing shade on the design are the Rams' NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. The Bay Area team did so while showing off their alternate throwback uniforms and refraining from mentioning the Rams specifically (h/t to KNBR).

Here's what the Rams' new uniforms look like when rendered in Madden NFL.

The 49ers are scheduled to host the Rams during Week 6 on October 18, and then travel to SoFi Stadium during Week 12 on November 29. Of course, that is all dependent on California allowing games to be played within the state this year. Continuing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic could force California-based teams, like the 49ers and Rams, to consider playing elsewhere.
