San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman offered his support for his former teammate, safety Earl Thomas, who was released by the Baltimore Ravens over the weekend after punching a teammate during practice.

"It's really sad how things have played out for a man who is like a brother to me," Sherman wrote via Twitter. "Just know that when [Thomas] gets back on the grass he will be out to make a point! Still one of the best in this league and I look forward to him being able to prove it again."

Thomas, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro, now has his choice of new teams.

On Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network named the 49ers among the teams to keep an eye on when it comes to potential pursuers. The other being the Dallas Cowboys, of course, and the Houston Texans. However, there has been no indication that San Francisco would be interested in adding Thomas.

Many speculated last offseason that San Francisco would pursue Thomas as he hit free agency. That didn't happen, and the Pro Bowl safety ended up signing with the Ravens.

Thomas registered 49 tackles, two sacks, four passes defensed, two interceptions, and a forced fumble through 15 games during his one season with the Ravens.
