The San Francisco 49ers will place cornerback K'Waun Williams on short-term injured reserve with what head coach Kyle Shanahan described as a knee sprain. The designation will force the cornerback to miss at least three games.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Williams suffered a "somewhat rare ACL sprain," but that three weeks timeline seems to be an appropriate estimate for the defender's recovery.
#49ers CB K'Waun Williams has a somewhat rare ACL sprain, source said. No surgery is required and if rehab goes well, he could be back in 3 weeks. https://t.co/4RUxxavHLv
Williams, 29, left Sunday night's game in the fourth quarter after a collision with an Eagles player. He limped off the field under his own power, left for the team's locker room, and was listed as "questionable" to return.
Jamar Taylor replaced Williams.
Williams has recorded 12 tackles and two passes defensed in four games and two starts this season.
