According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, former San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Shane Day has joined the Los Angeles Chargers to serve as the team's quarterbacks coach and passing-game coordinator.
Shane Day, who was the #49ers QB coach, has moved on to the Los Angeles Chargers as QB coach/passing game coordinator. #49ers have brought back Rich Scangarello to replace Day as QB coach. Mike McDaniel, of course, is Niners' new offensive coordinator.
As noted by Wagoner, the 49ers brought back Rich Scangarello to work with the team's quarterbacks, replacing Day. Scangarello served in that role from 2017-18 before leaving to become the Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator. That lasted just one year, and Scangarello spent this past season as an assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Day had served with the 49ers since 2019. Before that, he spent three seasons (2016-18) as the tight ends coach with the Miami Dolphins and two seasons (2014-15) as an assistant offensive line coach with Washington.
Day also previously served as a quarterbacks coach with the Chicago Bears and offensive quality control coach with the 49ers.
