Defensive end Kerry Hyder spent last season with the San Francisco 49ers, and many were hoping he would return in 2021. That won't happen.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Seattle Seahawks are signing Hyder to a three-year, $16.5 million deal with incentives that could raise that total to $17.5 million. He was an unrestricted free agent.
Former 49ers' DE Kerry Hyder is signing a three-year, $16.5 million deal with upside to $17.5 million with the Seattle Seahawks, per his rep @ErikBurkhardt.
Hyder is the second 49ers unrestricted free agent to join the division-rival Seahawks. Seattle also signed cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to a one-year deal.
The New York Jets signed Hyder as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech in 2014. He registered career-highs in tackles (49) and sacks (8.5) while adding 10 tackles for a loss and 18 quarterback hits through 16 game appearances with the 49ers in 2020. His 8.5 sacks led the team.
Hyder, 29, has recorded 108 tackles, 18.5 sacks, and a pass defensed through his five NFL seasons (he did not play in 2014). He also spent time with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys between his stints with the Jets and 49ers.
