Unless you stay off of social media, as Jimmy Garoppolo does, it's tough to escape all of the speculation surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's future. Garoppolo remains the favorite to be the Week 1 starter. Beyond 2021, though, who knows?

San Francisco recently traded away several valuable draft picks, including multiple first-rounders, to move up to the No. 3 spot for the opportunity to acquire a quarterback of the future. The team obviously sees a potential upgrade in at least one option between Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones. However, Garoppolo remains in the team's plans for this season, allowing a rookie the luxury of sitting and learning behind a veteran.

Cornerback Jason Verrett spoke with reporters today. While he plays on the opposite side of the football as Garoppolo, he was asked about his quarterback and his relationship with head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.

"I don't know too much about their relationship, what they have," Verrett responded. "I just know that we all, as a team, and as an organization, have the utmost respect for Jimmy. We trust him. We trust everything that's he's done. Obviously, he led the team to a Super Bowl."

The biggest concern surrounding Garoppolo is the 23 games he's missed over the past three seasons. That includes 10 games sidelined last season due to ankle injuries, resulting in a six-win campaign. That is likely what prompted the 49ers to make the blockbuster move.

As expected, Verrett didn't have any insider info on what his bosses might do on April 29. He does trust the team's decision-makers, though.

"[As] far as what they do with the draft and trading up, I've got no control over that," the cornerback said. "I know John and Kyle are going to do what's best for the organization and add players that we need to help us win."
