Trey Lance is excited to finally know where he is headed. On Thursday night, the San Francisco 49ers made the former North Dakota State quarterback the No. 3 overall pick. Lance didn't learn his destination until minutes before Commissioner Roger Goodell called his name.
The 49ers captured the exchange between Lance and his new team, when general manager John Lynch informed the quarterback that he was headed to the Bay Area. Lance also spoke with his new head coach, Kyle Shanahan, and team CEO Jed York.
"It was pretty emotional for me right away," Lance shared via a Zoom call with reporters while in Cleveland, Ohio. "Just kind of a surreal feeling, and obviously not knowing what the situation was going to be, going into it. You never really knew until you knew, so for me, it was emotional, and just super blessed. I felt super thankful for everyone that's helped me get to this point."
"Welcome to the #49ers buddy. So happy to add you to our family."

Lance will travel to Santa Clara on Friday to tour the team's facilities and officially be introduced by the 49ers. Then, he'll get to work learning Shanahan's offense and preparing for his rookie campaign.
