The San Francisco 49ers announced today that the team has waived running back Austin Walter. The 49ers drafted two running backs this year — Trey Sermon of Ohio State in the third round and Elijah Mitchell of Louisiana in the sixth round.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Walter (5-8, 190) signed to the team's practice squad on September 23, 2020. He went on to appear in four games and register one carry for three yards in addition to one reception for 27 yards on offense to go along with five kickoff returns for 93 yards on special teams. Walter signed a one-year extension with the team on February 8, 2021.
