Pro Football Focus looked back at its 2019 draft class grades for each team and regraded teams into four tiers: "Excellent", "Above Average", "Average", and "Below Average", while also comparing their current grades with their draft day grades.
In the 2019 NFL Draft, the 49ers selected:
Round 1 (2): DE Nick Bosa, Ohio State
Round 2 (36): WR Deebo Samuel, South Carolina
Round 3 (67): WR Jalen Hurd, Baylor
Round 4 (110): P Mitch Wishnowsky, Utah
Round 5 (148): LB Dre Greenlaw, Arkansas
Round 6 (176): TE Kaden Smith, Stanford
Round 6 (183): OL Justin Skule, Vanderbilt
Round 6 (198): CB Tim Harris, Virginia
Originally, PFF ranked the 49ers 2019 draft class as an "Above Average" class. Two years, later, it changed its grade to an "Excellent" class.
"Everyone knows the impact studs at the top of the draft — Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel — but the 49ers also found a late-round gem in Dre Greenlaw. He made Kwon Alexander an afterthought, posting coverage grades of 72.6 and 65.3 in his first two NFL seasons."
With quality players in Bosa, Samuel, Greenlaw, and OL Justin Skule, it's not hard to see why PFF has such high praise for this 49er draft class.
In his rookie season, PFF gave Nick Bosa an 86.7 overall grade, ranking slightly above his brother Joey Bosa's rookie year grade of 86.6 overall.
Deebo Samuel earned a respectable 74.5 overall grade as a rookie, when he caught 57 receptions for 802 yards and three touchdowns.
Match that with Dre Greenlaw's rookie coverage grade of 72.6 and you have a quality all-around draft class.
