Wide receiver Trent Sherfield was the recipient of San Francisco 49ers rookie Trey Lance's 80-yard touchdown pass on Saturday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. The receiver is making a strong case that he should be part of the team's roster this season. Meanwhile, Lance is making a case that the team's future is bright with him at quarterback.
Sherfield agrees.
It certainly was the play of the night, and the first-quarter score quickly went viral.

After the game, Sherfield discussed his strong connection with the rookie quarterback, which has been apparent throughout training camp.
"Being able to play with Trey is an amazing thing," Sherfield said. "He's a young phenom. He's going to be really, really good in this league. Just building that relationship with him has been really, really good."
Sherfield added that he doesn't just have strong chemistry with Lance. The former Arizona Cardinals receiver feels he has that with each of the 49ers quarterbacks.
"Being able to work with all of them has been a really, really fun opportunity," Sherfield added. "Whenever the ball comes my way, no matter who it's from, got to catch it to make the play."
That wasn't all the fourth-year player had to say about Lance, though. Sherfield offered up more in his positive evaluation of the rookie.
"He's a competitor," Sherfield said. "For me, just watching him out there today, he looked very, very poised. You expect some guys, rookies, to be a little bit shaken up, but Trey, he's not shaken at all. He loves the moment. He plays big in the moment. I can't wait to continue to see him grow and continue to ascend."
Sherfield added: "He throws a really, really good ball. For me, as a receiver, it's not anything really different to me. The ball's in the air, I've got to catch it. That's really the only thing that I'm focusing on."
