Today, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan jumped on a conference call with reporters and provided several injury updates following the team's 15-10 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
"[Defensive tackle] Maurice Hurst has a high-ankle sprain," Shanahan said. "He's going to be out a while. [Linebacker] Mychal Kendricks has a turf-toe sprain. He's also going to be out for a while. [Offensive lineman] Senio Kelemete had a back [injury]. He's day-to-day. [Cornerback Alexander] Myres was evaluated for a concussion last night, but he was cleared today. He didn't have one."
What does "out for a while" mean for Hurst and Kendricks? Could it impact the upcoming roster decisions? The 49ers must trim their roster down to 80 players by 1 p.m. PT tomorrow.
"Any time you have an ankle and a toe, you're looking at least a month," Shanahan said, "so that's something we're definitely going to have to discuss today, how it plays out for the final roster spots, what we have to do to get through the next week or so. That stuff, we'll end up discussing at the end of the day, and we'll have to have a decision by tomorrow."
This week, the 49ers are back in Santa Clara preparing for their final preseason matchup, a home game on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
