The San Francisco 49ers have made the following roster moves ahead of Sunday's Week 9 home game against the Arizona Cardinals.
- TE George Kittle and K Robbie Gould activated from the injured reserve list
- RB Jeff Wilson activated from the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list
- DE Dee Ford placed on injured reserve list
- LB Tyrell Adams and S Tony Jefferson activated from the practice squad
- DT Zach Kerr waived
Gould suffered a groin strain while warming up for the 49ers' Week 4 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, landing on injured reserve on October 5. San Francisco placed Kittle on injured reserve on October 9 due to a calf injury.
This week, head coach Kyle Shanahan told NBC Sports Bay Area that the plan for Kittle on Sunday might depend on how the tight end feels on game day.
Said Shanahan: "But I think we'll ease him in a little bit and see how the game goes, how he's moving, how he's feeling, communicating with him throughout it. If he's feeling good, it's definitely a lot more tempting to keep him out there."
Ford appeared on this week's injury reports with back issues. This week, general manager John Lynch hinted that the 49ers were looking at their options with the veteran pass rusher.
"Dee has back issues," Lynch said during a KNBR interview. "Whenever you deal with someone, baseball, football, life, and the have back issues, they can flare up from time to time. Even when he was on the concussion protocol [last week], yeah, he was in the protocol, so that is what it is. Some of that, there was a play versus Indy where he kind of fell, and it kind of lit up some of his back issues, and some of those presented as concussion-type stuff. It's kind of one and the same.
"So really, not a new issue. Kind of an ongoing issue with him, and we're trying to work through that, see if we have him this week, and make some decisions moving forward."
The 49ers traded for former Houston Texans defensive end Charles Omenihu this week.
San Francisco enters Sunday's game with a 3-4 record while Arizona is 7-1. Kickoff between the two teams is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT from Levi's Stadium. The 49ers are currently favored by 2.5 points.
