According to the NFL transaction wire, the San Francisco 49ers protected the following three practice squad players ahead of Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.
The then-Oakland Raiders signed Wadman as an undrafted free agent out of UC Davis in 2018. He spent two seasons (2018-19) with the Denver Broncos. Tennessee made Smith an undrafted free agent signing out of Cincinnati, and he spent camp with the Titans.
The 49ers could be without their punter, Mitch Wishnowsky, for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans. On Monday, the team placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if Wishnowsky's status means he would miss the Week 17 matchup.
"No, those protocols to get back have eased up a little bit," Shanahan responded. "I'm not sure exactly how, but I still believe he has got to get two negative tests, I believe. And it depends on where his symptoms are, so we'll hold out hope that he'll be able to punt for us on Sunday and kickoff, and if not, we'll have someone else in here."
Linebacker Tyrell Adams terminated his practice-squad contract.
