The Athletic's Dane Brugler released his latest two-round mock draft. Due to last year's trade to acquire quarterback Trey Lance, the San Francisco 49ers are without a first-round pick until 2024. Therefore, the team's first selection comes with the No. 61 overall pick.
Who does Brugler view as a good selection for the talented 49ers roster? He has general manager John Lynch, head coach Kyle Shanahan, and company going defense, selecting Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker in the second round.
Brisker, a Pennsylvania native, earned a pre-draft grade of 6.38 from NFL.com, which equates to an "eventual strong starter," per the site's 8-point grading scale.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-1 and 199-pound safety had a 40-time of 4.49 seconds, a vertical jump of 34.5 inches, a broad jump of 124 inches, and 22 reps in the bench press. Brisker's other measurables include an arm length of 31.75 inches and hands measuring 9.875 inches.
In four three seasons with the Nittany Lions, Brisker recorded 151 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 14 passes defensed, and five interceptions. In 2021, he registered 63 tackles, six tackles for a loss, five passes defensed, and two interceptions through 12 game appearances.
While Brugler doesn't offer any notes beyond his first-round projections, Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote this of Brisker: "He has the versatility to become a moving chess piece in a variety of coverages and has the size and talent to match up with both "Y" and "F" tight ends. ... Brisker is an ascending talent with the NFL traits to become a long-time starter as a Day 2 draft pick."
Brisker was named first-team All-Big Ten and second-team All-American in 2021
