The NFL announced the compensatory picks for the 2022 NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers received five bonus selections, including the last overall selection in the draft.
The compensatory selections awarded to the 49ers are listed below.
- Round 3, Pick 102
- Round 3, Pick 105
- Round 6, Pick 220
- Round 6, Pick 221
- Round 7, Pick 262
San Francisco currently holds 10 selections in the 2022 NFL Draft but that will soon become nine. One of the two third-rounders will go to the Miami Dolphins as part of last year's trade to move up for quarterback Trey Lance.
The 49ers are tied with the Los Angeles Rams for the most compensatory selections awarded to an NFL team. A total of 39 compensatory picks were awarded to 16 teams.
Compensatory selections for lost players are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time, and postseason honors. San Francisco lost C.J. Beathard, Kendrick Bourne, Kerry Hyder, Solomon Thomas, and Ahkello Witherspoon last offseason but gained Samson Ebukam and Alex Mack.
Two of the 49ers' compensatory selections (102 and 105) were awarded as part of the league's minority hiring program. They come for the losses of Robert Saleh (Jets head coach) and Martin Mayhew (Commanders general manager) last year and Mike McDaniel (Dolphins head coach) this year.
The 49ers received two third-round comp picks (102 and 105 overall) for Robert Saleh/Martin Mayhew and Mike McDaniel being hired as head coaches, as part of the NFL's diversity initiatives.
