Frank Gore has already proven himself as an NFL running back. He ranks No. 3 all-time in rushing with 16,000 yards, behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton. The longtime NFL star recently announced he plans to sign a one-day deal with the team that drafted him, the San Francisco 49ers, and retire, closing the book on his Hall of Fame-worthy career.

Gore made his pro boxing exhibition debut in December, losing to former NBA star Deron Williams.

"I've been around [boxing] for so long. I love competing," Gore told Showtime ahead of the match. "I want to give it a shot. I'll see how this fight goes. If I want to do it again, I know I can."

It sounds like Gore has no intention of giving up on his second sport. He is set to make his professional boxing debut on May 14 in Jackson, Mississippi, on a Gamebred Promotions card. That is Gore's birthday.

His opponent has not yet been announced.

Gore played 16 NFL seasons after the 49ers made him a third-round draft pick out of the University of Miami. He remains San Francisco's all-time leading rusher with 11,073 yards through 10 seasons. After his time with the Bay Area squad, Gore played for the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets but did not play in 2021.
