George Kittle is dealing with a groin strain. It has put his Week 1 status into question. The San Francisco 49ers travel to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears on Sunday and could be without their star tight end.

On Thursday, Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network reported that Kittle is dealing with a Grade 2 strain that is limiting his speed and may require some rest to ensure he is available for the majority of the season.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR this morning and remains hopeful that Kittle will be available against the Bears. He was asked about the status of the tight end.

"I don't know yet," Shanahan told Brian Murphy and Kerry Crowley. "I'm really hoping it will be all right. I'm trying to think positively on it. He didn't end up getting to go yesterday ... but they'll hit him hard [today]. They'll do it all morning, and hopefully, he'll be able to get out there and do some red zone work today."

Shanahan also shared that he doesn't expect to have offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill available on Sunday. However, he did have some good news on right tackle Mike McGlinchey.

"He was banged up, so he wasn't able to start practice until this week, but he's been able to make it through all these practices," Shanahan said. "We had one Monday, and we had two [combined] on Wednesday and Thursday, so hopefully he'll have another good one today, and he'll be ready to go on Sunday."
