The Atlanta Falcons upset the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, winning 28-14. It certainly surprised fans, especially when the Niners looked to be rolling, coming off two consecutive wins.
The injury-plagued 49ers defense couldn't stop anything the Falcons threw at them. Quarterback Marcus Mariota had just one incompletion against them, and Atlanta rushed for 168 yards.
San Francisco's offense had three turnovers—two Garoppolo-thrown interceptions and a Jeff Wilson Jr. fumble that was returned for a touchdown.
"It was self-inflicted wounds, really," Garoppolo said after the game. "Guys making mistakes, and it wasn't just one guy or one position. It starts with myself, and I think we just kind of one after another kept making mistakes. When you do that, it adds up to a game like this."
One player who expects the 49ers to rebound from their third loss of the season is Charvarius Ward.
"We'll be back on our feet, Niners Faithful," the cornerback tweeted out after the game.
We'll be back on our feet Niner Faithful. Love Y'all #NinerGang

Next up for the 49ers are Ward's former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, so you can bet he wants to help his new team earn the win. The problem is we don't know if Ward will play. On Sunday, the cornerback exited in the second quarter with a groin injury and did not return. After the game, a reporter asked Shanahan if Ward's injury was something that could linger.
"We're not sure yet," Shanahan responded. "I hope not, but he couldn't go, which usually is not a good sign. But we've got to see how it is tomorrow."
While Ward's status is unknown, his optimistic tweet does offer some hope that his injury is just a minor setback.
The Week 7 matchup against the Chiefs, a rematch of Super Bowl 54, will be played at Levi's Stadium, where the 49ers have won six straight. Ward hopes The Faithful don't allow Kansas City's fans to overtake their home venue, similar to how 49ers fans have been invading stadiums during away games.
Please don't allow no red & yellow jerseys in Levi's Stadium next Week Faithful. Fill it up in Red & Gold.
