It's always amazing to win the division. It's even better doing it on the road, in Seattle, against a division rival.

The San Francisco 49ers did that on Thursday night, beating the Seahawks 21-13 to win the NFC West for the second time in the last four years.

Here were my thoughts during the game:

  • I hate the Seahawks. This will never change.
  • According to Kyle Juszczyk, the 49ers celebrate violence. It shows.
  • The first touchdown pass to George Kittle was a well-designed and well-executed play. If the play looked familiar, that means you're old (like me). Bill Walsh designed it, and Steve Young ran it, in 1987.
  • Seattle's defense was on the field for 40 minutes on Sunday. I would like to have seen Jordan Mason wear them down more in the second half.
  • Big play Dre (Greenlaw) strikes again.
  • Is Charvarius Ward elite? He's sure close.
  • I love Christian McCaffrey, but I'd like to see less of him. I'd hate for him to get injured.
  • It was great seeing a big game from Kittle. The 49ers need him to be a threat in the passing game, especially while Deebo Samuel is out.
  • When quarterbacks have nightmares, I bet they see Nick Bosa.
  • Ray-Ray McCloud was a great pickup.
  • The 49ers' offense struggled to run the ball against a bad run defense. I'm sure that was a focus for the Seahawks' defense this week.
  • 3rd-and-Jauan. Like clockwork.
  • Whenever I see Pete Carroll chewing his gum, I want to throat-punch him.
  • Brock Purdy is a more accurate passer than Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. That doesn't mean he's a better QB, but it could mean he's a better fit for the 49ers' offense.
  • How impressive was Purdy's first-down slide in a crucial moment? Not only did he stay in bounds, but the way he extended the ball was veteran-like. I'm not sure he gets the first down without doing so.
  • A dropped 3rd down pass by Brandon Aiyuk, and a missed field goal by Robbie Gould, made my heart hurt. The playoffs might actually kill me this year.
  • Purdy's legs made a few plays in this game that Garoppolo's legs wouldn't have made. Purdy is easily more mobile than Garoppolo. Is he more mobile than Lance, too?
  • All Jordan Mason does is ice games.

The 49ers now get to fly home and rest up for the next 9 days. They host Washington on Christmas Eve.
