It turns out that was just a promotional photo. Hargrave will not be wearing No. 93. The defensive tackle joined 95.7 The Game on Monday morning and was asked if he has picked a number yet.
"Yeah, I'm 98," Hargrave revealed.
Why No. 98?
"Because I can't get 97," he responded while laughing.
Hargrave wore No. 97 during his last two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Obviously, that won't work with the 49ers. San Francisco has a popular player already wearing that number—pass-rushing phenom Nick Bosa.
Hargrave admitted that he didn't even bother contacting Bosa about the number, knowing that an exchange was probably out of the question.
"He had it. He had it. I knew it was going to be hard to get that, so it was over with," Hargrave said.
The 49ers signed Hargrave to a massive four-year deal worth up to $84 million, including $40 million guaranteed. The defensive tackle recorded a career-high 11 sacks for the Eagles this past season, adding 60 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 16 quarterback hits, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble through his 17 starts.
