Proof of Brock Purdy's popularity in the Bay Area was on display tonight at Oracle Park. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback received a standing ovation during the Giants' game against the New York Mets.

Purdy is entering his second NFL season, recovering from surgery to repair the tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, an injury suffered during the NFC Championship Game. He is expected to be sidelined until sometime in September but can begin throwing again in June. That's when the 49ers will know more about his recovery timeline.
"Everything is going as planned," Purdy recently said. "We're on the same page just in terms of the Niners, [Dr. Keith] Meister and my physical therapist out here. Everyone's on the same page, and everything's going as planned. Very thankful for that. Just staying one day at a time from here."
The effortless manner in which Brock Purdy waved and took a handshake/slap with his right hand is a clear indication his recovery from elbow surgery is coming along just fine.

Purdy replaced Jimmy Garoppolo on December 4 after the veteran quarterback, now with the Las Vegas Raiders, sustained a broken foot. Purdy helped guide the 49ers to eight consecutive wins, including two playoff victories, before suffering his injury against the Philadelphia Eagles, one game shy of a Super Bowl appearance.
Trey Lance and Sam Darnold are expected to compete this offseason to be the Week 1 starter, should Purdy not be healthy for the start of the 2023 NFL season.
