Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area has spoken to someone working with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in Jacksonville. It sounds like the second-year player remains on track to be the team's Week 1 starter against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

There remains some skepticism that the quarterback will be ready in time for the September 10 matchup. Purdy underwent surgery on March 10 to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. The recovery time was expected to be about six months, pushing his timeline up against the start of the regular season.

Purdy appears to be ahead of schedule, though. The 49ers remain hopeful that he will be able to participate in training camp sometime during the second half of August.

"It seems like there's been no blips," Maiocco said Thursday on KNBR's Murph & Mac show. "Everything seems to be working toward September 10 at the Pittsburgh Steelers."

Maiocco admits that he is unsure about the 49ers' plans for Purdy during training camp. Will he be limited once he finally gets on the field? Will he start on an injury list? We won't learn that until later.

"But everything I've heard is that the progress and the [physical therapy], all that is right on pace, that there's been no setbacks," Maiocco continued. "And it's not necessarily all systems go. That'll come a little bit later. But as I understand it, they're very happy with where he is in his recovery from that surgery."

You can listen to the entire conversation with Maiocco below.
